NEXUS Scholars Program 2014

The Fulbright Regional Network for Applied Research (NEXUS) Program is inviting scholars and practitioners from the U.S. and abroad to apply for NEXUS Regional Scholar Program 2014. The aim of the Fulbright scholar program is to foster collaborative and multidisciplinary research to address challenging regional issues and produce tangible results.

The program will provide a platform for scholars from across the region to engage in collaborative thinking, analysis, problem-solving and multi-disciplinary research in one of the following five areas –

  1. Renewable Energy, including Micro-Grid Innovations
  2. Social and Behavioral Adaptation to Climate Change
  3. Measuring Climate Change and its Impact (Metrics and Standards)
  4. Climate Change and Biodiversity
  5. Climate Change and Food and Water Security

The scholars receive amount of USD$35,000 for the duration of the program that goes for travel to all program meetings, travel and maintenance for the exchange visit, research materials and assistance for grantees. The scholar’s accommodation and meals along with limited benefit for accident and sickness are also covered.

Total 20 (twenty) scholars will be selected among who five of them will come from the United States, five from Brazil, and the remaining ten from Western Hemisphere countries.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be from Latin America, Canada, the Caribbean or the United States.
  • Non-U.S. applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of and residing in the country from which they are applying at the time of application.
  • U.S. applicants must have U.S. citizenship and be residing permanently in the United States
  • Candidates with a master’s degree are required to have a minimum of five years of research experience.
  • Applicants should have particular expertise and research experience in one of the five identified research areas.
  • Non-U.S. Scholars must demonstrate proficiency in English; U.S. Scholars must demonstrate proficiency in either Portuguese or Spanish.
