Transnational Cultural Remittances Grant Program

Smart Objectives

Individuals, collectives and community-based organizations in the United States, Mexico and Central America are invited to apply for Transnational Cultural Remittances (TCR) Grant Program to support emerging and established projects that promote community well-being, human rights, social justice, economic empowerment and inter-connectedness among members.

Grant amount ranges from $2,000 – $20,000.

Projects that build upon and extend cultural knowledge across borders and result in an ongoing exchange of knowledge, customs and creativity from one country to another.

Projects that demonstrate a continuous and ongoing exchange whereby artistic activity supports, preserves or extends the cultural practices between linked communities in two or more of the following countries: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama and the United States.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicant must be based in Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama or the United States.
  • Applicant project must be between current partners in two or more of the eligible countries: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama and the United States.
  • Applicant must be an artist, artisan working independently or as part of a collective; or be non-governmental organization (); or have 501(c)(3) nonprofit status or have a fiscal sponsor with a 501(c)(3) status; or be a community-based volunteer organization with art or cultural components.
  • Projects designed to teach, preserve or demonstrate the ways in which transnational cultural remittances occur and influence communities between the United States, Mexico and/or Central America are eligible to apply.
  • Projects must demonstrate an equitable transnational partnership and do not have to include the United States to be considered.
  • Proposed projects must begin after July 1, 2014 and end by June 30, 2015.
