Karte Afghanistan Provinz Khost EnglischTwo female Western journalists have been shot in eastern Afghanistan, according to officials. One was killed in the attack, while the other was critically wounded.

A man dressed as a policeman shot the two foreign journalists on Friday, officials said. The incident occurred in a remote small town in Khost province near Afghainstan’s border with Pakistan.Police told the DPA news agency that the reporter killed in the attack was a German photographer, while a Canadian reporter was wounded. Both work for the Associated Press news agency.

“Two female journalists were shot this morning inside a district police headquarters; one has been killed, while the other is seriously wounded,” said Khost provincial police spokesman Mobarez Mohammad Zadran.

The attack comes ahead of  Saturday’s Afghan presidential election. The woman killed Friday is the second Western journalist killed  during the election campaign after Swedish journalist Nils Horner was shot dead in Kabul on March 11.

Sardar Ahmad, AFP’s senior Afghan reporter,  was among nine people shot dead, including his wife and two of his three children, on March 20 when gunmen attacked Kabul’s high-security Serena hotel.
