Apply for a Netherlands Fellowship to Participate in Wageningen UR Short Course on Governance & Food Safety in International Food Chains (7-25 March 2016)

Wageningen UR Center for Development Innovation (CDI) is currently accepting applications for its short term course “ Governance & Food Safety in International Food Chains” from 7-25 March 2016 in the Netherlands. Business, civic society or government professionals engaged in food control systems are invited to apply for the course and secure Netherlands Fellowships to participate in the program.

This three-week course empowers participants to manage food safety throughout the value chain. They will get a comprehensive overview of functional elements like standards and regulations, monitoring and surveillance, control management, inspection and certification, and communication, training and education.

The course includes lectures, individual and group assignments, case studies and field trips.

Course Objectives

Upon completion participants will be able to

  • Understand key concepts and elements of national food safety;
  • Engage in setting up or improving elements of a national food safety control system;
  • Advise governments, sector organisations and development organisations on food safety governance issues;
  • Develop education and training programmes on food safety control;
  • Identify institutional constraints and options to improve national control systems;
  • Describe current safety hazards and understand how these translate into risk and control limits;
  • Translate these options into an action plan, training or dissemination programme.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Business, civic society or government professionals engaged in food quality and safety management, including research, public controls, production, manufacturing and trade around the world are eligible to apply.
  • Applicants must have a professional education and at least three years of professional experience in agri-food chains.
  • Applicants must be proficient in the English language.
  • Applicants should have some computer skills.
